Enterovirus PCR
Enterovirus real-time PCR
Non-polio enterovirus infections often cause mild illness like the common cold. Some enterovirus infections, however, can have serious effects, especially in infants and people with weakened immune systems. Enterovirus infections can cause viral meningitis, viral encephalitis, acute flaccid paralysis, hand, foot and mouth disease, and other complications.1 Viral meningitis is of particular concern among children’s hospitals, with diagnostic testing for enterovirus in cerebrospinal fluid specimens by PCR recognized as the gold standard.2
Parechovirus real-time PCR
In the pediatric patient population, clinicians also frequently order parechovirus testing.3 In 2022 the CDC issued a health advisory stating that human parechovirus (PeV) should be considered in infants presenting with fever, sepsis-like syndrome, or neurologic illness (seizures, meningitis) without another known cause, and cautioned that severe illness can occur in children under 3 months.4
Primers and probes
ELITechGroup MDx offers their redesigned v2.0 enterovirus and parechovirus analyte specific reagents* (ASR). The ASRs are intended to be used in the development of real-time PCR assays and were reengineered for both performance and workflow functionality. The two sets of reagents are optimized for singleplex PCR efficiency at lower copy numbers and minimal cross reactivity when biplexed.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE TEST PORTFOLIO
Real-Time PCR testing for laboratories
ELITechGroup MDx set an industry standard in real-time PCR with the introduction of minor groove binder (MGB) probe technology, featured in our MGB Alert® products. MGB probe technology has long been the gold standard for hybridization probes that allow for melt curve analysis. Adding to our legacy of innovation, we now offer DSQ Alert™ probe technology, an evolution in MGB probe chemistry. Our DSQ Alert reagents feature our newest proprietary duplex stabilizing quencher chemistry in hydrolysis probes, offering enhanced signal-to-noise fluorescence and DNA duplex stability. All test reagents may be used on ELITechGroup MDx proprietary instrument systems and on most open channel platforms.
