Bordetella species are gram-negative coccobacilli bacteria and 4 pathogens species of Bordetella, B.pertussis, B. parapertussis, B. holmesii, and B. bronchiseptica cause pertussis or whooping cough (Pertussis-like symptoms) in humans. Pertussis toxin (ptxP gene) is a critical factor related to mortality in young infants and causes respiratory tract infections mostly in immunocompromised patients. Whooping cough occurring after transmission of the bacteria from person- to-person in airborne droplets is not only a childhood disease and can be very severe for adults. Worldwide, around 30 million cases of pertussis and 160,000 deaths in children younger than 5 years old are registered every year, 90% of them occurring in developing countries.
Bordetella ELITe MGB® Kit is a qualitative multiplex nucleic acids amplification assay for the detection and typing of the DNA of Bordetella pertussis (BP), Bordetella parapertussis (BPP) and Bordetella holmesii (BH) in clinical samples. The assay is CE-IVD validated, in combination with ELITe InGenius®, a fully automated sample-to-result solution.
